PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT
Pipiteas’ main purpose is to provide an early childhood service for children of those working in the public sector. Our guiding curriculum document is “Te Whaariki (Ministry of Education, 1996). It also recognises the diversity of cultures in New Zealand and underpins the principle of partnership inherent in Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
We are an inclusive early childhood setting in a caring learning community, in which every child is accepted and valued. We also encourage and value the input of families.
We provide a safe and welcoming environment, where parents, children and staff feel comfortable about participating in the programme. We also promote an atmosphere respectful of ourselves, other people and their opinions and belongings, and the wider environment.
We acknowledge that children are capable learners. We work to provide an emergent curriculum whereby the children set the programme for learning at their own pace and according to their own interests.
We strive for quality. This is reflected in our practice, by which we provide a stimulating environment for children, enhanced by teachers who value and are supported in professional development.
